USK Hosts AISCE 2026 to Discuss the Future of Climate-Resilient Infrastructure
Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK) hosted the 7th Aceh International Symposium on Civil Engineering (AISCE) 2026 on 14–15 July 2026. Carrying the theme “Resilient Infrastructure under Climate Change,” the international symposium served as an education platform for academics and practitioners to exchange innovative ideas and develop solutions for building infrastructure that is resilient to climate change and disaster risks.
Organized by the Faculty of Engineering, AISCE 2026 brought together researchers, academics, professionals, and students from various countries, including Indonesia, Pakistan, Thailand, Malaysia, Japan, Iraq, and the United Kingdom. This year’s symposium attracted significant interest, with nearly 40 scientific papers accepted for presentation.
The symposium was officially opened by USK Vice Rector for Planning, Partnership, and Business, Dr. Ir. Ramzi Adriman, S.T., M.Sc., on 14 July 2026. In his opening remarks, he emphasized that AISCE serves as a strategic platform for knowledge exchange and collaborative problem-solving.
“We hope AISCE will continue to serve as the education platform for academics and practitioners to share knowledge and expertise. The outcomes of this forum are expected to provide tangible benefits not only for the Aceh Provincial Government but also for the wider community in addressing global infrastructure challenges,” said Ramzi.
Echoing this message, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Ir. Iskandar, S.T., M.Eng.Sc., IPM., ASEAN Eng., highlighted the symposium’s importance in supporting sustainable development in Aceh and education. He expressed hope that the innovations presented during the event would contribute to disaster mitigation efforts and strengthen infrastructure resilience, particularly against tsunami hazards.
“We sincerely appreciate everyone who has contributed to the success of AISCE 2026. Our focus is on developing sustainable and adaptive infrastructure as a response to the growing challenges of climate change,” Prof. Iskandar remarked.
AISCE 2026 featured three distinguished keynote speakers: Prof. Syamsidik, Head of the Global Engagement Office (GEO) of USK; Dr. Khamarrul Azahari Bin Razak from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM); and Dr. Ezri Hayat from Teesside University, United Kingdom. They shared insights into current challenges and the latest innovations in developing resilient infrastructure for the future.
Through AISCE 2026, USK reaffirms its commitment to advancing high-quality research and strengthening international collaboration and partnership. The symposium is expected to foster concrete solutions for addressing the impacts of climate change while reducing disaster risks through innovative and sustainable infrastructure development.
