The Global Engagement Office (GEO) of Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK) organized an online discussion with the International Office of Universitas Muhammadiyah Bengkulu (UMB) on Monday, 3 August 2026, via Zoom. The discussion aimed to strengthen collaboration and support the internationalization of higher education, particularly by enhancing strategies for international student recruitment.

The session featured Andi Azhar, Ph.D., Head of the Office of Cooperation and International Affairs of Universitas Muhammadiyah Bengkulu, who shared UMB’s experiences and best practices in attracting, recruiting, and supporting international students. His presentation highlighted institutional strategies, promotional initiatives, partnership development, and student services that contribute to creating a welcoming and globally connected academic environment.

The discussion was chaired by Prof. Syamsidik, Head of the Global Engagement Office of Universitas Syiah Kuala, and attended by Dr. Ir. Reza P Munirwan, S.T., M.Sc., Secretary of GEO USK, along with GEO staff members. The interactive session provided an opportunity for participants to discuss challenges, and explore innovative approaches to strengthening international engagement.

Prof. Syamsidik emphasized that collaboration among Indonesian universities plays a crucial role in advancing the internationalization of higher education. He noted that sharing knowledge and institutional experiences enables universities to improve their capacity to attract international students while enhancing the quality of academic and support services for learners from diverse backgrounds.

The activity contributes to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, by promoting inclusive and internationally connected learning opportunities through student mobility and institutional capacity building. It also supports SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, as the discussion strengthened inter-university collaboration and knowledge sharing to address common challenges and advance the internationalization of higher education.

Through initiatives such as this, GEO USK continues to strengthen strategic partnerships with universities across Indonesia and beyond, reaffirming its commitment to fostering international collaboration and creating a more globally engaged academic community.
